Failed Back Surgery & Revision Spine Surgery

🗓 Full interview from June 23rd

🎙 Interview was in Arabic — here are the key points in English:

What is Failed Back Surgery?

Failed Back Surgery refers to persistent or recurring severe pain after spine surgery, with no significant improvement despite conservative treatments like pain management or physiotherapy — whether weeks, months, or even years after the operation.

Common Causes of Failed Back Surgery:

1. Non-fusion or pseudarthrosis after fusion surgery

2. Incomplete decompression of the spinal canal

3. Infection in the operated segments

4. Sagittal imbalance

5. Spinal instability (before or after surgery)

6. Implant failure

7. Surgery that was not indicated

8. Misdiagnosed or wrongly indicated surgery — e.g., missing OPLL with disc herniation or unnecessary fusion

How to Avoid Failed Back Surgery:

✅ Always get a second or third opinion — but from a high qualified spine surgeon

✅ Talk to other patients who had the same surgery with the same surgeon — ask how they felt at least 6 months post-op

✅ Modern spine surgery is safe and can significantly improve your quality of life

💡 If you’ve had a failed spine surgery — don’t lose hope. We’re here to help.
